In The Walking Dead, the Governor is responsible for killing many of the main characters. Set in a zombie apocalypse, The Walking Dead follows a group of survivors as they try to rebuild their lives amidst the ruins. Together, they go from place to place trying to find a safe home, but each season brings new challenges and villains. The Governor was introduced in Season 3 and turned out to be their most terrifying threat yet.

Philip Blake, better known by his nickname "The Governor", is the smartest villain on The Walking Dead. He also takes psychopathic pleasure in the murders he commits. He is the leader of the Woodbury community, which enjoys the security of kinship living thanks to the walls around their town and the protection afforded by the Governor. Woodbury's safety comes at a price, though: the Governor protects the citizens by ruling them with an iron fist. Even the residents of his own town could not escape his wrath as he and his militia destroyed nearby communities and killed other survivors.

Andrea Harrison Is Bitten By A Zombie Created By The Governor

Andrea Harrison has been with Rick Grimes since The Walking Dead season 1 and is Her friend and a brave survivor. Andrea might be a loathsome character, but she's tough and unafraid to challenge Rick. As a separate soul, she often stayed away from the main group and had relationships with antagonists in the series, including Sean and eventually the Governor. After Walker's attack, Andrea separated from her group and arrived in Woodbury. The audience sees the governor through Andrea's eyes, and sees him with the same tough but fair light she does.

The Governor and Andrea had a romantic relationship in The Walking Dead, but it ended when she realized what he really was. Andrea's assassination attempt on him fails, and she ends up strapped to a chair and bitten by a zombified Milton Mamet. As a last act of independence, Andrea chose to take her own life. The Governor is ruthless and his willingness to lie and revenge is unlimited. Even when it comes to people he seems to have some sort of affection for, the Governor executes his revenge in an incredibly personal way, forcing Andrea's friend to kill her.

Hershel Greene Is Decapitated By The Governor

Hershel Greene was one The older member of Rick's group and a man of peace on The Walking Dead. Unlike others, Herschel is diplomatic when it comes to the series' antagonists. When he first met Rick and the survivors, he was reluctant to kill the walkers because he believed there was a chance to save them. He is one of the few survivors of the apocalypse, retaining almost all of his humanity. The world is a chaotic and dangerous place, and survivors struggle to maintain any semblance of society, but Herschel's wisdom reminds everyone that the drive to live cannot be spared at all costs.

When the Governor returns from exile in The Walking Dead, he grabs Hershel and, after a back and forth, brutally decapitates him with a katana sword in front of Rick and the survivors. Even until the last moment, Hershel tried to make everyone make peace. Rick takes his lesson to heart, and while the governor doesn't waver, he reiterates Herschel's belief that no one gets too far. Just before the sword slices him, he smiles at Rick, glad he remembers at least a part of him teach. Hershel's end at the hands of the governor was tragic but brave.

Merle Dixon Is Shot By The Governor

Merle was the older, meaner and more violent of the Dixon brothers. It makes perfect sense that he would align himself with the governor and his cronies. Merle showed in The Walking Dead that bad guys can get better through the trials they're forced to face. Merle eventually tried to kill the governor himself, but the tyrant bit off two of his fingers, knocked him to the ground, and killed him at gunpoint. It is not easy to be redeemed in this world, and even those who are redeemed are often forced to accept their retribution in one way or another.

Milton Mamet Is Stabbed By The Governor

The Governor keeps atrocities like killing soldiers secret, but he cannot always cover up his crimes. Community scientist Milton Mamet uncovered the Governor's brutality but continued to work for him out of fear. It wasn't until he met Andrea that Milton decided he could no longer abide by the governor's rule of law. When instructed to kill Andrea, he instead turned the knife on the governor, but was immediately dispatched and killed with his own weapon. governor suffers There is no betrayal in his society, and Milton is an example of what happens when a character on The Walking Dead develops a conscience at the wrong time.

Martinez Is Fed To Zombies By The Governor

When Martinez was killed, the governor made a goosebumps quote that showed his character. A Governor's success depends on having a loyal following base willing to do what he says. Many of these characters, like Martinez, aren't inherently bad, but they commit evil acts for the greater good. Martinez offered to work together, and the Governor responded by shoving him headlong into a pit of zombies to be devoured. In The Walking Dead, there are characters like the governor who can't reason with people and have degenerated to the point where all they know is violence.

Allen Is Shot By The Governor

The Governor provides security for those who join him, but he also provides survivors with an opportunity for revenge. Alan was originally a member of the prison, but in that story he got kicked out of the prison and he wanted revenge on Rick. Even he was appalled by the governor when he turned his guns on his own soldiers. for all his fantasies Retaliation, that was too much, and he pointed a gun at the governor. Unfortunately, Philip Blake, a more experienced killer, draws first and kills him. Taking sides with a monstrous figure in The Walking Dead could put the characters in as much danger as opposing them.

Axel Is Sniped By The Governor

Axel was one of the original inmates at the prison, which became home to Rick and the survivors in The Walking Dead. Unlike some of the other prisoners, Axel is non-violent and wants to join Rick's survivors rather than fight them. As Rick's group spends more time in prison, they come to accept Axel. However, just as he begins to open up to Carroll, he is shot in the head by the governor in a surprise attack. No one is safe on The Walking Dead, and Axel's death reflects just how messed up the world is, and just as a character can grow in importance, they can be taken away.
