The Masked Singer: Prediction and Clues of Medusa's Identity

The Masked Singer season 9 premiere shows Medusa advancing to the next round. There are clues that might help decipher her identity.

The Masked Singer season 9 kicks off with one of the best opening nights ever, as Medusa's incredible performance sees her advance to the next round. She prevailed over beloved actor Dick Van Dyke, who was revealed to be a midget, and country music superstar Sara Evans, who wore a Mustang mask. Medusa wowed the judges and audience with her enigmatic rendition of Billie Eilish's "Happier than Ever." She then went head-to-head with Sara in the battle royale, during which they sang Rihanna's "Diamonds."

After Medusa was sung in the Masked Singer season 9 premiere, the panelists made some interesting speculations. Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg thinks she might be singer Ellie Goulding, while Nicole Scherzinger predicts she might be singer Lorde. Ken Jeong wonders if Medusa is Duchess of Sussex (and former actress) Meghan Markle. However, when it comes to the identity of Medusa, the king of masked singers, the analysis of clues points in different directions.

The Masked Singer's Medusa's Clues

In the premiere, several clues are given to prove Medusa's true identity. Her clue pack reveals that she "grew up away from the spotlight, a dancer in the dark, and I've never been able to fit in. I mean, look at me! A Greek statue appears in this part of the clip. She's not worried about fitting in, however, because she knew early on that she was born to stand out. She, "does her own thing," and defies anyone who expects her to "conform." From the Super Bowl to this stage — yes, technically, I've been here before."

Medusa added that this time she's here to perform. She said The Masked Singer felt like her "perfect stage" because, "look around...it doesn't get any weirder than that." Hints about her identity kept popping up throughout the clue package. They include a scale, a large knight and bishop from a chess board, a true love heart tattoo, Buckingham Palace, and planets and asteroids. Medusa's Swag Bag Clue is a DVD of a movie called Medusa: The Astral Snake. It said "$340 million." Medusa says, "Sometimes success comes from the grayest of places."

The Masked Singer's Medusa's Identity Guesses

While The Masked Singer's panelists offered several theories about Medusa's identity, based on clues, there are two possibilities They didn't think about it. Bishop Briggs is an English singer-songwriter, best known for her single "River". Jewel sang it during The Masked Singer season 6 when she was the Queen of Hearts, so that's probably why Medusa says she's technically been there before. Also, Bishop's song "Never Tear Us Apart" appears on the Fifty Shades soundtrack, which is probably why the reference to "the darkest" is there. The chess pieces may be a tribute to her name, while the heart tattoo may be a reference to her song "Tattooed on My Heart." Additionally, one of her songs was featured in an Acura Super Bowl commercial.

Another possibility for the identity of The Masked Singer contestant Medusa is singer and actress Stacey Ferguson, also known as Ferguson, who is the lead singer of The Black Eyed Peas. Buckingham Palace's clues may be a reference to Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, who is also nicknamed Ferguson. Fergie also had a hit album called The Dutchess. In Season 1 of The Masked Singer, Rumer Willis stars as Lion, singing Ferguson's song "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody." Fergie made headlines during the 2011 Super Bowl halftime show with The Black Eyed Peas. Fergie also has a song with Sadrian called "Astral Plane". Also, Medusa is noticeably shorter than her other contestants, with Fergie standing at around 5ft 3in.

Regardless of who the Masked Singer's Medusa is, she is an excellent performer, bringing something unique and groundbreaking to the show. Nicole was amazed that she thought she had never been so speechless in nine seasons. Whether Medusa was Bishop, Fergie, or someone else, she set the bar high for The Masked Singer season 9. ^More: The Most Shocking Masked Singers of 2022 Revealed ^The Masked Singers airs Wednesdays on FOX at 8pm.
