Meredith's big appearance on Grey's Anatomy in the most recent episode was slammed by veteran viewers who felt the character deserved more.

Meredith's big appearance on Grey's Anatomy has been slammed by longtime fans of the show. The series, which premiered on ABC in 2005, revolves around Meredith Gray (Ellen Pompeo) and her upbringing, which eventually led to her appointment as chief of surgery at what is now Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital. The cast of Grey's Anatomy has changed a lot over the course of 19 seasons, but Pompeo's character has always been considered a mainstay. However, it was previously confirmed that she would have a smaller role this season, leading to speculation about Meredith's future and whether the show could succeed without her.

As her departure from the latest episode of "Grey's Anatomy" aired, fans took to Twitter to share their reactions, many of them upset by the ending. Meredith's Grey's Anatomy Exit Explained

Grey's Anatomy season 19 episode 7, titled "I'll Follow the Sun", follows Meredith's last day at Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital before her planned move to Boston. She and Nick (Scott Speedman) are still arguing Regarding their relationship, after boarding a plane with the kids, Meredith claimed she couldn't hear him when he called to say he loved her. Before that, she lost writer Tessa to a final surgery and gained a flash drive of her writing for a publisher. Other medical staff threw a surprise party for Meredith, where she said goodbye.

Other Grey's Anatomy characters had dramatic exits, and viewers were understandably frustrated given Pompeo's importance to the series. For what it's worth, the star remains an executive producer on the show, and she's hinted at a possible return for Meredith. While there's no word on Grey's Anatomy's contract renewal, Meredith is still expected to appear in the season 19 finale.

It's hard to imagine Grey's Anatomy ending without a stronger goodbye to Meredith or a celebration of Pompeo's years of work. Her appearance in the season 19 finale could indicate Meredith's future on the show, should it continue. If it ends similarly to the latest episode of Grey's Anatomy, it could mean the character has a chance to return once again.
