The Flash's final season will wrap up all the way as the series explores Barry Allen's final year in the Arrowverse. After years of speculation as to whether or not this villain will show up, the Red Death has become the latest big bad in The Flash season 9. However, the DC TV incarnation is taking a different route than the comics. While Red Death is a fabled alternate version of Bruce Wayne, a familiar Arrowverse player took on the role in The Flash.

In the final minutes of The Flash season 9, episode 3, the Red Death unveils himself, revealing none other than Ryan Wilder. This is the first time Batwoman has appeared in the Arrowverse since the end of Batwoman season 3.

As social media reacted to the Red Death reveal, Batwoman's writers also weighed in on Leslie's return. The account thanked The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace for making their lead a part of the final season. They also thank The Flash writers for bringing Ryan back Arrowverse.

Although Red Death is Ryan, it is unclear which version of Batwoman this is supposed to be. Episode 3 of The Flash season 9, titled "War Rogue," revealed that Ryan disappeared in the line of duty a few weeks ago. Not long after, the Red Death showed up in Central City ahead of this week's episode's big reveal. But Ryan's whereabouts are unclear, as the Red Death may not be Batman's Earth-Prime version.

Given that the Red Death in the comics is a multiverse version of Batman, it's possible that The Flash was filmed in a similar fashion. This is Ryan from a parallel universe or alternate timeline. If it's a doppelganger, that would explain why she may or may not have kidnapped Earth-Prime's Batwoman. After Crisis on Infinite Earths, Arrowvere instituted a new rule that there cannot be more than one version of a person on the same Earth.

With only two episodes left in the Red Dead saga, The Flash season 9 will have answers soon. Episodes 4 and 5 are actually two parts of 'The Mask of the Red Death', likely next week This episode will get into her backstory. The Flash season 9 episode 5 could be the final showdown between Barry and this version of Ryan. Considering how much Red Death content they've amassed over the past few weeks, The Flash season 9 promises to pay off handsomely for the overall storyline.
